After finishing their Individual Assessment for the National Parks Ecoscenario Project, students spent time in science going over major projects and assessments and pulling out the work they wanted to present at their conferences this week (the next two Thursdays - if you haven't already, sign up by contacting the office). They filled out reflection sheets for pieces of work they want to show off, then some had time left over to fill in their Mammal March Madness brackets. This should be a fun few weeks, following a battle royale tournaments of mammals designed and hosted by biology professors at various American universities. Tomorrow we'll dedicate time to differentiating between the animal orders, and then looking at similarly ranked mammals to find which features they have in common and why. Students should complete they're Mighty Mini Mammals and Critically Endangered groups tonight. We'll be announcing the first round battle results tomorrow in class!

In math, students began work on skills using a site called "IXL.com". Their homework is to work on a certain set of skills for at least 30 minutes. The set of skills can be found below. This site is accessible at home, and the students can move at their own pace. And I mean, they can move as fast and as far as they want, plus we can direct them to foundational skills if they need the practice. Their usernames are all set up the same:

username "firstnamelastname408"

password "mem123"

So my username would be "mattlunt408" and my password would be "mem123".

Please encourage your students to move through the skills assigned for this week before moving on to other skills. And if you see good things at home thanks to this site, send me a positive email so I know how it's working and can use that feedback to extend our trial period.

IXL Skills for this week:

Reach 75+ points on each skill for full credit. Complete the page to receive a 4.

Level H, Z.22 - Perimeter (problem solving with different shapes with missing information)

Level D, T.12 - Perimeter word problems (make a labeled drawing to help solve the problem)

Extra Practice with Area and Perimeter

Level E, R.9 - Find the missing side length

Level G, B.16 - Area of squares and rectangles (dimensions only, no grid)

Level E, R.12 - Area word problems (make a labeled drawing and to help solve the problem)

Finding the Area of Compound Figures (shapes made of two rectangles)

All of the following skills are the same - the first involve smaller numbers, the last uses larger.

If you can do Level H, Z.24, you don't need to do the others.

Level F, P.21 Level G, B.19 Level H, Z.24
