Here's a look at some of the most exciting projects, trips, and other major events for our team.

Floor Panels and Walls For 3 days in March, students designed a floor plan, calculated the cost of materials (floor panels = $4/square inch, walls = $5 per inch of length) to fit within a price range, and built a scale model from their design!  It was a great project modeled after tasks typically expected of older math students, but these students rose to the occassion!
Group Challenges
This winter, we'll be dedicating more time to group challenges.  These problems will ask students to brainstorm different solutions, communicate the goals and roles to all members of the group, and will emphasize the process of working on difficult problems as a community.  Looking forward to adding to this gallery throughout the rest of the year!
Kapla Block Warmups
After Thanksgiving Break, students began spending the first 15 minutes of math class solving design challenges using small planks of wood.  They were given tasks like "Create a bridge that only touches the banks of a river," or "Build a catwalk that goes over a cup without using any blocks near the base."  They work in pairs, make multiple attempts, and share strategies - a great way to start math class!
FBI Training Scenario
To help us apply our hard-earned skills in the area of Evidence-Based Writing, a former FBI agent and classroom parent came in to explain the profession and help set up a scenario for the students. They analyzed a scene and practiced their skills in observation, inference, and Evidence-Based writing.
