Students had a nice re-entry to school in Math this morning with some 3D problem-solving. Students used Kapla blocks (small planks of wood) to create quick bridges with different goals like spanning gaps, holding weight, and then spanning even larger gaps by combining pieces with their partner's set. After that, we played a game to help students make some connections between mixed numbers and improper fractions, and then practiced adding mixed numbers with unlike (but friendly) denominators..

In science, we reviewed some of the central concepts of invasive species by looking at a map of human migration and then deciding whether humans could ever be considered an invasive species. Students talked in pairs and then wrote their responses on a checklist that will be used to help them finish their invasive species PSA's tomorrow. If they did not finish and turn in their responses, this is for homework tonight.
