Today students were busy and productive all through Math, Science, and Intervention Seminar, so there is no homework - just get outside and move around!
After a short warm-up in math involving the many ways to split up a 12-pack of water, students dug into Summative Assessments for the previous unit. Summatives are big opportunities to show what you know, and I only give them when I expect the students have had the lessons and practice necessary to do well. Some worked to get a solid 3.0 in the books, and others worked toward earning a 4.0 through some puzzles that had them applying the content in contexts that showed a greater depth of understanding of more complicated problem-solving.
In Science, student used a word bank to label their Comic Strip Notes from yesterday on the thriving ecosystem we call our gut. These are terms we'll be learning in depth in the following weeks. We reviewed the terms Resource and Limiting Factor, and in pairs or individually the students created a video or written post in response to a microbiotic Single Celled Mom wondering if she should move her family to the Upper West Side of the Intestine.
